Peter S. Hofheinz, Jr.

April 22, 1950 — December 31, 2020

Peter S. Hofheinz, Jr., of Jupiter, FL, loving husband, father of three and grandfather of three, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2020.

Born on April 22, 1950 in Queens, NY, Peter was the son of Peter and Fannie Hofheinz, who predeceased him. He moved to Hollywood, FL. and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music and Master’s in Science Education. Peter met his wife, Monica McCaughan, at Barry College. They raised their three children Veronica, Peter, III and Steven in Hollywood.

Peter retired from a 38 year teaching career in Miami-Dade County, the majority of which was at Highland Oaks Middle School, where he taught gifted Science. For many years he would run into former students who had become pharmacists and doctors after being inspired by his science classes. Peter was a natural musician and pianist. He was trained in the classics but excelled in jazz, rock and pop. While in high school Peter was a member of a band called the Watchmen, with his best friends and brothers for life, Larry Hart, Richard Corey, Robert Valentine and Dean Haddox. They were well-known and cut a record together. But his grandchildren thought ‘Poppop’ was the best at singing ‘Hawaiian Rainbows’.

Peter is survived by his wife Monica, his three children Veronica, Peter, III (Kathryn) and Steven, his grandchildren Peter, IV ‘PJ’ and Benjamin Hofheinz and Claire Lily Rodriquez, his sisters Karen Persell (Eliot), Beth Gittelson and Nancy Desmarais. A personal thanks to our loving daughter-in-law, Kathryn Hofheinz, who guided and helped us through this very sad event.

While we cannot have a service right now, we will be planning one in the very near future. We would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Trauma and ICU Center, especially Dr. Mauricio Loretta and nurses Brook Phillips, Lynne McInerney and Nick.

Peter lived for one thing – his family. They were all he ever needed to make him the happiest Dad and ‘Poppop’ in the world.
