It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Lang (93 years young), who went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021. Marie will be remembered for her love of family, dedication to education and her devotion to God.
Marie was a beloved mother and wife. Marie is survived by her son Mark (Tina) of Jupiter, Florida, sister-in-law Mary McMahon of Overland Park, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John, son Daniel, daughter Martha, brother Thomas, brother Mark, parents Vincent & Mae, brother-in-law Eddie Lang (Taffy), sister-in-law Katie (Lang) Godbee (Bill), and sister-in-law Suzie (Lang) Pileggi (Frank).
Marie was born in Iowa in 1928. She grew up on the family farm and graduated with an AA degree from Mt. Mary Jr. College (now Mount Mary College), Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1945. She met John Lang while in college and they were married in 1947. Marie moved to Florida with her husband John in 1950 and then moved to Georgia before returning to Florida in 1958 and living in West Palm Beach. All three of her children were born in Palm Beach County. Marie returned to school and earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education from Florida Atlantic University (1972) and her Masters Degree also from FAU (1974). Marie was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church for 63 years.
Marie was a retired teacher, having taught 2nd grade at Military Trail Elementary and West Gate Elementary for 16 years after a previous career as a secretary. She retired from teaching in 1990 but kept involved in education through many volunteer activities. For Marie, service to others and the community has always been a way of life. Marie was also a very active member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church serving in the RCIA and other parish ministries. Marie also was a literacy tutor for the Library Literacy Tutor program of Palm Beach County and was a Palm Beach County Poll worker.
Marie was a “very special person” as quoted by many who have called with their condolences. She loved to laugh. She also loved to see Broadway shows and musicals. She loved to travel and traveled abroad with her husband John many times. Marie loved murder mysteries both in books and TV shows. Her hobbies included reading, gardening and cooking, especially desserts since she had such a sweet tooth. Marie was a caring and devoted friend. She will be deeply missed by friends and family alike.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate a life well lived will be held on Friday, September 17th at Noon at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, (345 S Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415) followed by a graveside ceremony at Lake Worth Memory Gardens (3041 Kirk Rd, Lake Worth, FL 33461) at 1:15 pm. MARIE HAS FORBIDDEN ANYONE TO WEAR BLACK OR GREY TO THE SERVICE. PLEASE WEAR CELEBRATORY COLORS TO HONOR HER LIFE. ALL PEOPLE IGNORING THIS EDICT WILL BE ASKED TO WEAR A HAWIIAN LEIS DURING THE SERVICE.
