After a long illness, Larry A. Charrier peacefully passed away on March 23, 2024, with his husband (Duane) and brother (Francis) at his side. He was born in Skowhegan, Maine on January 28, 1946, the son of Leon and Antoinette (Poulin) Charrier.
After graduating from Skowhegan High School, Larry lived in Florida and Massachusetts, honing his skills as an accomplished florist and "cutting edge" designer. In 1984, he returned to Skowhegan where he owned and operated Skowhegan Fleuriste floral shop until 2010. Having an acumen for sound business practices, he set the example and influenced the success of floral businesses by diversifying to include and offer formal wear rentals, chauffeured limousines, etc. to his clients, becoming one of the first true "all-inclusive wedding and events planner" florists in the State.
Larry enjoyed involvement in his community, volunteering his time and providing support to organizations which included serving on the Board of Directors for the Skowhegan Savings Bank, and assisting with the formation of the Skowhegan Downtown Business Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, cooking in his chef kitchen for anyone lucky enough to enjoy it, traveling abroad, and he especially enjoyed years of attending shows at the Lakewood Theatre in Madison, Maine, where he also worked as a teenager.
A devoted Catholic, he was a man of humility, empathy, and grace, doing his best to make those people that crossed his path feel loved and respected. As a parishioner at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Skowhegan, he served as Eucharistic Minister and mentored for the RCIA. He was also a faithful role model, accepting the responsibility as Godfather for many children throughout his life, which he took quite seriously.
His dry sense of humor was enjoyed by many and the coy smile behind his jokes is embedded in our memory. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones - friends and family.
He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Bernard and (Joseph) Ronald. He is survived by his partner and husband of 44 years, Duane Burbank, siblings; Francis of Lake Worth, FL, Rudy (Linda) of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Judy Waller of Sedona, AZ. He is also survived by countless nieces and nephews, too many to list, but each one holding a very special place in his heart. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank two dear friends, Anita Robertson and Elizabeth Wendler, for their loving support through this difficult time.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Sacred Heart Parish, 428 N. M Street, Lake Worth, FL on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm. A private service will be held at Larry's final place of rest in Maine at a later date.
If anyone is interested, it was Larry's wish that donations in his memory be made to either Notre Dame de Lourdes Church (Christ the King Parish) in Skowhegan, Maine, or St. Jude's Children's hospital (www:stjude.org)
