Celebrating the Life of Joyce Ilene Potter Averill
It is with sadness, great joy and respect to celebrate the life of Joyce Ilene Potter Averill, who passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on January 28, 2025. Born at home on November 21, 1942, in Ashland Kentucky, Joyce was the cherished daughter of George W. and Genevieve Potter. As the third child in a lively family of seven, Joyce's early years in Kentucky were filled with love, laughter, and the strong bonds of family.
Joyce was a devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where she served her community with unwavering passion and selflessness, never expecting anything in return. Her faith and dedication to help others was the cornerstone of her life, she touched countless lives with her kindness and generosity.
After earning her Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Education, Joyce relocated to South Florida in 1973. There, she embraced her role as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, Mama, Big Mama, loving friend, and faithful church servant. Her love for her community was evident in every aspect of her life, and she remained a pillar of strength and compassion until her passing.
Survived by her husband of 42 years Larry Averill

Grandchildren Stevie (Sydney) Blanchette, Jordan Pizio, Samantha Roller
Great Grandchildren Savannah & Sianna Blanchette
Additional family members include children Tamara (Mark) Dore, Tracy (Jamie) McAllister, Larry, Averill III, & Terry Averill.
Also, Grandchildren Benjamin, Aaron, Sarah Dore, Amy Bass, David & Amber MacDonald, Seth & Channing Averill
Siblings Frances, Helen, Richard (Hilary), Roger (Pam), & Jimmy Lee (Sherry) Potter, along with numerous nieces & nephews
Preceded in death by her parents George & Genevieve Potter and brother Perry Potter
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 1st 2025.
