Joseph (Tommy) O'Hara, age 90, of Palm Beach, Florida (formerly of Long Beach, NY, Boynton Beach, Hicksville, NY and the Bronx) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2024.
As a husband to Mary for over 66 years, Tommy was a loving and caring spouse who passionately provided for Mary and his family through his entire life. He was the rock to Mary and their three children - Thomas and his wife Joanne of St. Augustine, FL, James and his wife Susan of Rockville Centre, NY, and Christopher and his wife Mary Ann of Bethlehem, PA - who leaned on him for support, wisdom and advice. He filled his role as grandfather and great-grandfather with fun, laughter and support to Brendan
(Stephany), Kristin (Drew), Mary-Kate, Patrick (Kelly), Molly, Bridget, Sophie, Ruby, Jack, Ridley and Liam. He truly admired all of his grandchildren and was filled with pride whenever he was with them. His fondness extended to his niece and nephew - Bernadette (Danny) and Brian - and their beautiful families. And his love was ever so present within his friends and their families from the 138th Street crowd in The Bronx, Long Island and Florida which he accumulated over his lifetime.
Tommy was dedicated to his Catholic faith and family. He was the epitome of a Man's man, a doting husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, an amazing uncle and a dear friend and colleague. He provided a patriarchy and determination to establish a strong family foundation as a provider, a husband, a father, and a respected person at work and in his community. He without a doubt has left his mark in this life with his incredible family whom he loved and adored unconditionally. The lifetime of love he shared with us is his everlasting gift.
Tommy was born in Pittstown, Pennsylvania. He was raised with his younger sister Mary in the Bronx and was the older of two children of Mildred (Tigue) and Thomas O'Hara. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Taconic as Quartermaster/ Navigator from 1952-1956. Tommy was known as Joe in his professional career as a senior executive in the banking industry for Barclays Bank and Bankers Trust, moving his way up through the ranks from messenger to Senior Vice President responsible for commercial lending in Montague Street, Brooklyn and Main Street, Flushing Queens. He was unique in his ability to build and foster trusted client relationships throughout his successful career, including providing services for charitable organizations such as Jerry Lewis and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He spent nearly 40 years in this industry.
