Helen Marano, age 88 passed peacefully the morning of Friday, July 19th. Born in 1936 in Brooklyn NY, to the late John and Philomena Verzi, she was the youngest of 6 siblings.
Helen’s life and her legacy can be defined by her family. She spent 70 years of her life deeply devoted to being a loving wife to her husband Attilio and being a homemaker, providing for four children, Donna, Vivian, Stephen, and Sharlene.
She was happiest at home, and surrounded by the people she cared for most. Helen loved her family dearly and cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was playing card games, Rummikub, or enjoying a bit of friendly gambling. Her joyous spirit and love for these simple pleasures created lasting memories for all who knew her.
Everyone has a story about Helen, a time she made you laugh, a time she complimented you (or so bluntly, didn’t) but all ended in a smile from the storyteller. Helen is fondly remembered for her unique ability to make each conversation more memorable than the last. Whether it was with you in person, or over the phone she was bound to have you laughing over her 20 questions, and famous one-liners. She remembered all the little details about all of her loved ones, and spent her days chatting and checking in with all of them. Her love for her family and friends was so clearly evident, and will be sorely missed.
Helen now reunites with her mother and father, her beloved daughter Donna and grandson Stephen in heaven, as well as with all her siblings. She’ll be watching over her family with the same love and care she gave during her lifetime.
She leaves her legacy behind to her husband, her 3 surviving children, their spouses, 14 surviving grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. All grateful for a life filled with her love, they will continue to cherish their memories of her .
A memorial service is being planned by her family. Details will be posted when arrangements have been made.
