Gerald A. Swabek, age 81, of Lake Worth, Florida passed away on May 17, 2023. He was born on August 31, 1941, in Youngstown, Ohio to Katherine and Alexander Swabek.
Gerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years Virginia Swabek; sons Allen and Craig; granddaughters Oliva and Erin; grandsons Chase, Cody, and Charles; and his faithful boxer-dog Oliver.
Gerry moved from Girard, Ohio to West Palm Beach where he graduated from St Ann’s High School. He met his lovely wife Ginny there and was married in 1962. Having studied Civil Engineering at Florida State University, Gerry enjoyed a distinguished career with the Florida Department of Transportation. His most memorable and lasting projects were overseeing the construction of the renowned Singer Island Bridge and the re-building of the Lake Worth Bridge.
Gerry had a love of auto racing, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed all things mechanical. He spent many nights umpiring little league baseball and never missed a game of baseball or football that his boys were involved in.
He is preceded in death by his brother Albert, and sisters Alice and Olga.
A service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, May 26 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 345 Military Trail, West Palm Beach. Donations can be made to Coastal Boxer Rescue of Florida Inc., at P.O. Box 121381 W., Melbourne, FL 32912-1381.
