Florence B. Costello, age 85, of West Palm Beach, Florida entered into eternal rest September 30, 2024.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Joseph G. Costello, children, Gerard Costello (Elizabeth), Joseph A. Costello (Christina), Jaime Lash, seven grandchildren, Katie, James, JP, John John and Mary Costello, Nicholas and Connor Griffin and her sister, Barbara Tufano.
Florence was predeceased by her daughter Gina Marie Griffin, and her two sons-in-law, SSgt. Carroll Eugene Griffin (Gene) and William Lehman Lash.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Florence was the youngest of four sisters. She met the love of her life, Joe, at a mixer at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. They married and later moved to Long Island to have more space for their growing family, eventually settling in Cold Spring Harbor after their youngest was born. After retirement, they moved to Florida to enjoy the warmer weather and more time relaxing.
Florence was a bright light in everyone’s life she touched. A “steady Eddie, “ she was always there with a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on and a listening ear. She was insightful, observant and had a fabulous sense of humor.
She was a dedicated advocate and cheerleader for children and those in need. She always gave back to her community by supporting local charities, volunteering for 10 years with the United Cerebral Palsy Association (UCPA) of Nassau County then with the Celebrate Youth program in the Town of Huntington. She led local events and supported fundraising efforts for both.
She loved learning new things - like ceramics, interior design and new sports. She was an avid supporter of her sports teams, especially the Islanders, attending home games regularly over multiple seasons. She also loved hosting gatherings for family and friends - sharing her delicious cooking and baking with all guests. You always felt welcome in her company.
She will be missed dearly by all who knew her, but remembered fondly for the memories, laughs and love she shared.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on October 19, 2024 at 10am.
Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association.
