Esther Edghill, age 83, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on October 19, 2024. The eight child of Ernesto Mantilla and Amina Ramirez. Esther was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Her family, headed by her mother Aminta with the aide of her brother Jaime Mantilla migrated to the United States and settled eventually in the vicinity of Washington, D.C. Following the journey of her mother and siblings young Esther immigrated to the United States where a new chapter of several unfolded. Esther graduated with the class of 1960 from the Immaculate Conception Academy in Washington, D.C earning her High School Diploma.

Esther married Harold Edghill. Together, they embarked on an extraordinary adventure, making a life for themselves and their growing family across different countries in South and Central America due to Harold’s work. From her personal experiences abroad as well as back home Esther nurtured and approach for diverse cultures and communities.

A kind human being, Esther participated in community events and prayers groups. She was willing to help others with English instruction, transported friends children to school and assited others in any way she possibly could. Her service mindedness and dignified, respectful deameanor were unique and truly sincere qualities, which made every one feel special around her. For all her kindness, Esther preferred to remain an unsung hero and thorugh the years, she continued to embrace her role as a devoted wife and mother, ensuring her children thrived no matter where life took them.

Esther will be deeply missed by her ex-husband Harold Edghill, and by her children: her daughter Yvonne Diaz Granados, her son-in law Pierre “Josef” DiazGranados, her sons David Edghill, and Michael Edghill, as well as her daughter-in-law Laura Edghill. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Sean Edghill, Lance Edghill, and Ian Edghill, who will always remember her warmth, and strength.

To those who knew Esther, she was a devoted mother with a fierce and protective love for her children. No matter the challenges she faced, including her lifelong battle with mental illness, her priority was always to create a home and a sense of security for her family. She was a fighter—both for herself and for those she loved. Her determination to make a stable home in the face of adversity is a testament to her resilience and enduring love as a mother.

Beyond her devotion to her family, Esther had a radiant personality that drew people to her. She loved to entertain and had a remarkable gift for turning strangers into friends. Whether hosting gatherings in her home or simply striking up conversations wherever she went, Esther had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her home, no matter which country it was in, was often filled with the sound of laughter, and it wasn’t uncommon for a simple visit to turn into a joyous occasion filled with food, stories, and music. This ability to connect with others, whether family, friends, or new acquaintances, was one of her greatest strengths. Esther’s warmth and openness that made her beloved by many, and her lively spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Presently, the family plans to hold a service in remembrance of Esther’s life at a later time, when all can come together to honor her memory and celebrate the life of a woman who, though she faced many challenges, left a lasting impact in our hearts.
