On the morning of May 8th, 2022, Edward “Edso” J. Simmons, Sr. 77 of Lake Worth, Florida, formerly of Easton, Massachusetts, passed away after a courageous ten-year battle with cancer supported by his loving wife Kate.
Edward was the doting husband of Kathleen Simmons, father of Edward J. Simmons Jr. and his wife Cathy of RI, Lisa O’Neill and her husband Sean of Mansfield, Ma, Patricia Donovan and her husband Edward of Raynham, MA, Dennis Simmons and his wife Colleen of Taunton, MA, John Simmons and his wife Danielle of Mansfield, MA and Kathleen Melcher and her husband Joshua of E. Bridgewater, Ma. He was the supportive grandfather of 12 grandchildren: David, Edward, Sean, Abigail, Mollie, Michael, Richard, Dylan, Andrew, Grace, Aidan and Anthony. Ed loved his country and spent many years serving in both the Army National Guard and Air Force National Guard retiring as a Technical Sergeant. He also worked as a civilian for the Dept. of Defense as a Computer Analyst. After retirement, Ed and his wife moved to sunny Florida where he instantly befriended every golfer on the 12th hole behind his house. He quickly supported and encouraged the neighbors to live life to the fullest and to think positively. Ed spent his time on his lanai, writing poetry and saying hi, telling people, “They are also a poet and probably didn’t even know it!” If not on the Lanai, he was volunteering at church, watching the news, or texting with friends and family.
Ed’s memorial services will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, MA, at 10 A.M. on Friday, May the 20th with interment and Military Honors at The Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts on Monday the 23rd of May at 9:45 AM.
