With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our cherished Carl Shepherd on March 4, 2025. Carl Ancille Shepherd, was born in Labrea, Trinidad and Tobago on March 31, 1947, to Gordon and Euphemia Shepherd. He was the second child in the family survived by his older sister Marlene and younger siblings Colvin and Maureen. He grew up in San Fernando, Trinidad where he attended San Fernando Government School and Presentation College. His cricket prowess began in 1967 when he joined the St. Joseph Catholic Youth Organization and became a member of the team. Upon graduation, he worked with the Inland Revenue Division of the Trinidad Government.
In 1968, he migrated to the United States to attend Howard University in Washington, DC where he studied civil engineering. He was the first in his family to earn both a Bachelor's and Master's degree. He was also a member of the 1969 Howard University Cricket Team who went undefeated that year and was an Inductee into Howard University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
Carl Shepherd had an illustrious career with over 30 years as a civil engineer. One of his many accomplishments included being the Lead Engineer in constructing the District of Columbia Public Transportation System, DC Metro, in his tenure with Bechtel Corporation.
As a loving husband and father, Carl touched countless lives. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Ingrid Shepherd, son Carl Ancille “Andy” Shepherd Jr. and two beautiful daughters Vanessa and Valerie Shepherd; granddaughters Alexis Shepherd and Jamya Williams; brother-in-law Michael Harrington; sister-in-laws Deloras Shepherd, Shirley Butler, Joy James and Quillan Burton; aunt Yvonne Hill; nieces Nadia Rachal, Neica Murray, Sarah Herriott; nephews Kirk Shepherd and Matthew Herriott; cousins Keith McMillan; Ann, Radcliffe, Margaret, Michelle, and Yvette Atkins; Leslie, Veronica, and Annette Hill; Gillian and Charmaine Bourne.
Carl was a man of immense humor and wisdom cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching his favorite team; the Manchester United Football Club. Carl, aka, DJ Vibes not only was a dj, but also loved to sing and play Kaiso often imitating famous Calypsonians.
Carl - a proud Trinidadian, HU Bison, engineer, athlete, sports enthusiast, family rock, and friend - is a man we all admired and loved. Although he is in a better place now, his zest for life left an indelible mark on this world.
We will honor Carl on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Tillman Funeral Home located at 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach FL 33415. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday followed by a Funeral Service celebrated by Rev. Jacob Asiedu-Frempong beginning at 12:00 PM.
