Barbara S. Loines

Barbara Susan Loines, beloved, passed away on March 25, 2025 surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on July 9, 1944 to Irene and William Guhl at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic, NJ and was raised in Rutherford, NJ.

Upon graduating from Henry Becton Regional High School in East Rutherford where she was a dedicated member of the color guard team, she enrolled in and graduated from the Mountainside School of Nursing in Montclair, NJ. Barbara practiced nursing for many years in various settings including a children’s hospital, private practice and lastly at the Arbor Glen Nursing Home in Cedar Grove, NJ. She later worked as a technician at Eye Exam21/Eye Lab in Totowa, NJ.

On Nov. 16, 1963 Barbara married the love of her life, James Loines, Jr. They settled and raised their two children, Chris and Shannon, in Little Falls, NJ. She formed strong life-long relationships with many of her neighbors. She loved entertaining them with simple cake and coffee or a BIG, as she would say, “SHINDIG”.

In 1987, Barbara and Jim moved to Royal Palm Beach, Fla. where they lived for 14 yrs. In 2001 they decided to downsize and moved to a house in a small but beautiful and peaceful community in Lake Worth, Fla. where she and Jim enjoyed the last 24 years of her life with friends, neighbors, family who visited and her 3 dogs.

Barbara was a trusted, loyal and caring friend to so many. She was always eager to lend a helping hand or just an ear. Barbara had a strong affinity for gardening, thrifting, entertaining and decorating (particularly at the Holidays).

She was the leader, guiding light and matriarch of her family. A loving, loyal and caring wife to Jim of 61 years, a loving, compassionate, supportive Mom to her two children and four Grandchildren, a wonderful sister to her brother and Aunt to her niece. Her love for her family and dogs was paramount.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents Irene and William Guhl, parents in laws James Sr and Lucy Loines, Aunt Magda Berentes and her son Christopher Loines.

She is survived by her husband James Loines Jr, brother William Guhl, niece Erika Guhl, daughter Shannon Loines-Masur (husband David) and four Grandchildren Samantha, Jessica, Christopher and Sydney.
