Paul B. Chafin, age 78, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008 at his home. He was a long time resident of Lake Worth and owner of Chafin Musicenter for 51 years. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Doris, and was the beloved father of 5 children- Jeff (Susan) Chafin, Julie (Michael) Hardman, Cathy (Steve) Edmonds, David (Melanie) Chafin, and Pamela (Charles) Carpenter and eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by the dear mother of his children Shirley (Robert) Naylor, his brother Moses Benton (Mahala) Chafin, sister Leslie Schell, three nephews, stepsons Dennis and Bill Mahlmeister and three step grandchildren. Paul was born on February 14, 1930 and raised in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from University of Miami with a BA in music education. Upon graduation he joined the US Air Force and was a member of the elite jazz sextet “The Crew Chiefs” which later became “The Airmen of Note”. They traveled the world fostering good will for the USAF and the USA. He was part of the Bob Hope Christmas Tour entertaining troops in Greenland. After completing his tour of duty Paul moved to Lake Worth and opened Chafin Musicenter. Through Chafin Musicenter, Paul supported band programs in Palm Beach County schools for 5 decades. He has been a top entertainer in the area for many years. His dream was to give the gift of music to all. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to either The PBCC Foundation- Paul Chafin Music Scholarship or Hospice of Palm Beach County. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Tillman Funeral Home, 2170 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach is assisting the family.
