WILLIAM R. “BILL” COMP Age 91, of West Palm Beach, FL passed away on June 7, 2008. Bill was born in Greensburg, PA on June 27, 1916. He came to West Palm Beach on May 1, 1941 as a member of the then US Army Air Corps and was stationed at Morrison Field for several years. He served overseas with the air transport command in the China-Burma-India Theater of war on the Hump operation for the duration. Bill was a lifetime aviation enthusiast. He started to fly in 1939 and got his private pilots license and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association for years. He retired in 1995 as a member of IATSE Local #500 and Local #477 working as a scenic painter for Movie and TV productions. He was an avid artist and active in local art circles. Bill was predeceased in death by his wife and wartime sweetheart Lelia Hudspeth who he married before leaving for oversees assignments. He was second born in a family of nine siblings and is survived by sisters, Dorothy Kessler of Atlanta, GA and Virginia Meholic of Royal Palm Beach, FL; brothers Richard Comp of Latrobe, PA and Jim Comp of Smithsburg, MD; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. A Memorial Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 10:00 AM until 12 Noon at Tillman Funeral Home, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach.
