Robert D. Saums

Age 92, of Palm Springs, Florida died January 15, 2009. Robert was born in Whitehouse, NJ and was the son of Asa Shepherd Saums and Charlotte Cave Space Saums of Whitehouse, NJ. He was a graduate of Juilliard School of Music in New York City, and the American School of Arts in Fountainbleau, France. In his younger years he served as organist-choir director at the Rockaway Reformed Church in Whitehouse Station and the Zion Lutheran Church in Lebanon, New Jersey. He also spent many years as a piano teacher for pupils in the greater Whitehouse area. He was a member of the Royal Poinciana Chapel, the Palm Springs Travel Club, the Gardener’s Club and the Local Writing Group. He was a life member of the Musicians Union. He served in the Army in World War II. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Edna Westcott, of Whitehouse, NJ and his nieces, Muriel Cesta, her husband Tom, of Monroe, VA., Virginia Sheay, her husband Ronald, of Stockton, NJ, and Georgie Ann Guthe, and her husband Carl, of Delanco, NJ. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Music Ministry at the Royal Poinciana Chapel, 60 Cocoanut Row, Palm Beach, Florida 33480, or the Palm Springs Public Library, 217 Cypress Lane, Palm Springs, FL 33461.
