Valee C. Smock

Valee (“Val”) C. Smock, 71, of Longwood, Florida was surrounded by his family when he went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2009, after a brave battle with lung cancer. Val was born in Greely, Iowa on St. Valentine’s Day, 1938. He graduated from Greely High School in 1955 and immediately joined the U.S. Army. He was a paratrooper for the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Once out of the Army, he worked for a family business and then worked for GMW Trucking Company. He moved to Florida in 1982 and went to work for Super Foods, Inc. Val loved the trucking industry and his 18-wheeler, and he always looked forward to going to work every day. He retired from LeSaint Logistics on September 2, 2009. Val loved to play golf, which he continued to do even while receiving chemotherapy treatments. He enjoyed taking his Jon boat out fishing and going hunting in the Carolinas. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors working in his yard and doing home repair projects. Val was always quick with a joke, had a great sense of humor, and always had a good story to tell. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved friends. Thank you, Rob Frazier, for being a caring friend until the end. Besides his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Carolyn Smock; he is survived by his son Kevin (Brook) Smock, daughter Kathy (Andy) Christensen, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and three stepdaughters, Lynnette (Rodney) Romano, Connie (Brian) McNamara and Kimberly (James) Ayers, of W. Palm, Florida. Val was a very proud and devoted grandfather of thirteen grandchildren: Drew, Mitch, Matt, Heather, Lindsey, Kristina, James, Alexandria, Zachary, Jeremiah, Gabriella and Ashley. He was also survived by his five sisters: Lois (Bert) Kruger; Jayne Miller; Eva (George) Brecht; Audrey (Ambrose) Loecke; and Joyce (Gary) Barnhart. A memorial service will be held at Longwood Community Building, 200 West Warren Avenue, Longwood, Florida on Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m
