Michael Roy Whelan, Age 53 of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Michael was born on March 30, 1956 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Palm Beach County. Son of the late Peter and Bessie Mae Whelan; born and raised in West Palm Beach and resided the last 5 years with his brother and sister-in-law in Loxahatchee, a true ”Florida Boy”. Michael had a lifetime career with The South Florida Water management District serving the majority of his career on the structure maintenance crew as a dark water diver. He was an avid sportsman and conservationist with many outdoor passions. Including; shrimping trips to Oak Hill, weekend fishing trips to the Bahamas, Snook fishing the spillway, Lobstering in the keys and never missing the first nine days in J.W. Corbett with his sons and friends. He was a loving Father, Brother, Grandfather, Uncle and Son that will truly be missed by his Family and Friends. Michael is survived by his two sons: Gregory DePaul Whelan of New York, New York and Todd Michael Whelan (wife Allyson and 2 grandsons Taylor and Talan) of Gainesville Fl. Brother Bob Bryan of Palm Beach Gardens, Brother Walter “Butch” Whelan (wife Cindy) of Loxahatchee, sister Sandy Downey (husband Birddog) of Wellington, and Brother Tom Black of Fort Pierce. His loving nieces and nephews: Christopher, Kaitlan and Kimberly Whelan, Joshua and Matthew Bryan, Kyle and Phillip Downey, and Adam Black. Additionally his dear friend James Binns and best friend, the late, great Snapper dog. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1:30pm – 5:30pm on Friday, February 12, 2010. At DuBois park (East/Ocean side pavilions) Jupiter Fl. A service will take place at 2pm followed by a memorial celebration of Michael’s life.
