Marjorie Gayle Marriott

Marjorie Gayle Marriott went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2009. Gayle was born to Earl and Versie Martin, in Pampa, TX, in 1935. Her sister, Peggy preceded her in death in October 2008. Gayle graduated from Jackson High School (Jackson, MI), she then earned her RN degree from Henry Ford School of Nursing in Detroit MI in 1956. She served as a Director of Nurses for over 15 years during her career. In June 1967, Gayle married her husband, Edward Marriott, whom preceded her in death in 2004, and raised 3 children and 3 foster children. In 1985, Gayle was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, a disease which at that time had no treatment. She fought to be included in clinical trials at the NIH, testing a drug that was later approved by the FDA. Gayle spent 23 years bringing other Alpha’s together, helping to establish support groups, mentoring them and educating the medical community about Alpha-1. Her determined efforts established her as a cornerstone in the creation of the Alpha Foundation. She is survived by her son Jeff (Magdalena) Marriott with 2 grandchildren, and daughter Patty (Mark) Armstrong, and daughter Melissa (Jeff) Wilson. A Memorial Service will be held at Tillman Funeral Home, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL. 33415 (561) 965-4412) on Saturday May 16th at 11:00 am, Visitation will be at 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Thursday May 14th.
