Philip K. Mebus

Philip K. Mebus of St. Clair Shores, Michigan and formally of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan passed away at his home in Atlantis, Florida on March 19, 2010. Phil is survived by his wife, Sharon, children, Pamela, Philip III (deceased), Christopher (Melanie), Sarah Holder (Dennis), Melissa Iten, Sheila Fox (William), Vanessa Schneider (Brian) Amy, and 15 Grandchildren. Born in Detroit, Michigan Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Margaret Mebus, and Sisters Claire Kay, and Erika Maguire. He is survived by Sisters, Patricia Gallacher, and Kathleen Toth. Phil attended Saint Clare Grade School and DeLaSalle High School. He graduated from Villanova University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. He then joined his father in the Manufacturing business and later purchased and continued to manage the company with his son Christopher. Philip also was in the Steel Processing and Warehousing Business for over 25 years. He won the Villanova Alumni of the Year Award in 1984 and also was a past President of the Detroit Chapter of the Villanova Club. Phil was a Senior Member of The Detroit Athletic Club in Detroit, Michigan where he enjoyed playing handball for over 45 years. He was a member of the Country Club of Detroit and the Atlantis Golf Club. As a past member of the Grosse Point Yacht Club and the Old Club of Harsons Island he enjoyed many years of boating with family and friends on the Great Lakes. He traveled extensively and was a member of the Circumnavigator’s Club and past member of the Nomads Travel Club. Philip was a member of the Saint Paul’s Parish in Grosse Pointe Farms. Michigan and also of Holy Name of Jesus Church in West Palm Beach, Florida. Throughout his life he was active in various community activities. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 AM Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, West Palm Beach, Florida, the Rev. Gavin J. Badway celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends 5-8 PM Wednesday at TILLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 2170 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, Florida where prayers will be said at 7:30 PM. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 345 S.
