Clara Kachmar

February 22, 1914 — July 1, 2009

CLARA ANNA KACHMAR February 22, 1914 – July 1, 2009 A woman of great courage and determination whose gracious manner and sense of humor remained intact despite the challenge of memory and hearing losses, Clara died with a grateful heart in her daughter’s home with her daughter by her side on July 1, 2009, where she and our Dad, Mickey, resided since October 1999 after relocating from Wilmington, Delaware. Our Dad died peacefully in his daughter’s home, with his daughter by his side, in August 2001. Family members: daughter Joanne Kachmar Leavitt of West Lake Worth, Florida; son David Kachmar of Hockessin, Delaware; grandchildren Christa, Marisa, Dana, Ian, great-grandson Blake; three generations of nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Theodore Kachmar and wife Eleanor, extended family members James McCourt, Bryen Stewart, Paul Cicamore, and most endearing friends Patty delos Santos, Richard Leavitt, Deborah Magano, Nilda Douglas, Melissa Moore and Tammy Mauldin, whose generous gifts of time and consideration to our Mom, all rejoice in her life and her legacy of devotion to family. We value 9 years of vigilant care from Dr. Armando Marull; Vitas Innovative Hospice Care helping professionals for providing accurate medical assessment and emotional support; Lucy Tejedor for her most tender care, gentle humor and optimistic spirit which brought laughter and lightheartedness into our Mother’s life these last three years. Clara’s marriage of 66 years to our beloved Dad, Mickey, her care and giving as Mother to us, her role as grandmother and, for many years, along with our Dad, as caregivers to their grandchildren, continue to be the richest blessing of our lives. Our Mom expressed her gratitude every single day and we are ever so grateful to have had her with us these many years. It has been an honor to care for her, as it was for our Dad. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Woodcrest, Delaware at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery. Join us in celebrating our beloved and amazing Mom. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in memory of Clara Kachmar to The Vitas Hospice Charitable Foundation, 1901 S. Congress Ave., Suite 430, Boynton Beach, FL 33426.
