Frank George Helit, 89, of Lake Worth, Florida passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011. Frank was born April 1, 1921 in Buffalo, New York to the late Michael & Catherine Helit and moving to the West Palm Beach area in 1988 from from Connecticut. He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He went to public schools in Buffalo, New York. Frank was very active at Pine Ridge III, he served on the board 2 terms. He was also very handy, could do most everything to help anyone that need something done. He also was well know for always riding his bike around the complex, stopping to talk to anyone that needed advice. Frank served in the Army Air Corps as a Aerial Engineer during World War II and leaving with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He flew 47 combat missions with the other men of his unit on "Our Baby" over Germany, Austria, France under General Arnold. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean (Streaman) Helit of Lake Worth, son, Tommy Helit of Bethel, Connecticut; daughters, Charlene Larson of San Antonio, Texas; Cathy Mc Makin of Cincinnati, Ohio and Barbara Armstead of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Nellie Kaczmarek and Irene Minnick both of Buffalo, New York; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service for Frank will be held 10:00 am Monday, February 14, 2011 at TILLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 2170 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach with Father Gavin Badway of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church officiating. Inurnment will be private at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida.
