William "Bill" Sidney Ball

William Sidney Ball, “Bill” “ Billy Sid”, 84, died peacefully at his home on January 17, 2011 due to complications of Alzheimer’s. Bill was born September 1, 1926 in Coeburn, Virginia to the late Edgar & Hannah (Powers) Ball. Bill moved to West Palm Beach in 1960 from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and served in World War II. Bill was President and owner of Masonex International, exporting building materials down through the Caribbean Island. He graduated from Auburn University with a master’s degree. Bill was a football player during his years at Auburn University and held the record for the longest kickoff return. He remained a big supporter of the Auburn University Football program all of his life. Bill coached high school football in Charlotte, North Carolina and Vero Beach. During his high school years at R.J. Reynolds he was North Carolina’s All State running back in 1943. He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Doris Foster Ball; step-daughters, Kim (Bernie) Schultz; Donna (Dave) Maletich and Becky (Fred) Halper; step-son, Michael Foster; brother, David (Jewell) Ball; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Memorial Services for Bill be held 3:00 pm Monday, January 24, 2011 at Tillman Funeral Home, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach with Pastor Bill Keith of First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until service time. Inurnment will be at a later date at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to The Senior’s Ministry of First Baptist Church of West Palm Beach, 1101 South Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, Florida 33401 or Hospice of Palm Beach County, 4500 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 33407.
