Frederick Jackson Powell

Fred Powell, 91, Palm Beach Gardens, passed away Saturday September 10, 2011 after a brave struggle against cancer. Mr. Powell was born May 15, 1920 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Frederick & Margaret (Chriss) Powell and he moved to the West Palm Beach area in 1988 from Michigan. Mr. Powell was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and retired from General Motors. He is predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth “Betty” Powell and his son-in-law David Jones. Mr. Powell is survived by his loving daughters; Karen Jones of Vancouver, Washington; Nancy (Bob) Bireta of Palm Beach Gardens and Sheila (John) Crow of Waterford, Michigan; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial for Fred will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 345 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach with Father Andrew Brierley as celebrant. Interment will be follow the Mass at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth with military honors. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations be made to Catholic Relief Services or Food for the Poor, in memory of Fred Powell.
