Rita Curry, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on December 31, 2013 at the age of 93. Rita touched the lives of hundreds of New Rochelle residents through her work running the Rita Curry Dance Studio. If New Rochelle is only forty-five minutes from Broadway, then Rita brought Broadway back to New Rochelle. With wonderfully produced recitals, her students felt the rush of what it was like to be on the big stage. To this day, many look back with fondness and excitement at their days as Rita Curry dancers. Patrick F. (Frank) Curry, former Captain of the New Rochelle Police Department, was the love of her life and her devoted husband of forty-six years. He died in 1990. They met when her beloved parents Emilie and Michael Twohig moved the family from the Bronx to New Rochelle - right next door to the Curry family. Emilie and Michael pre-deceased Rita, as did her adored brother John Twohig. Rita is survived by her devoted daughters Gail Jansen and Karen Curry, her granddaughter Samantha Richardson, her son-in-law Allen Richardson and dozens of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. As a dancer herself, Rita was a Harvest Moon Ball finalist and danced at Carnegie Hall and other venues. She was a loving mother and grandmother and a shining light to all - funny, classy and kind. It is with sorrow but also great gratitude that her family and friends celebrate La Vida Rita. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 15 Shea Pl. New Rochelle, NY. A Graveside service will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1500 South State Road 7, North Lauderdale, Florida 33068
