Spero Kitsakos of West Palm Beach, age 88, died at home on March 6, 2014. He was born on July 21, 1925 in Lowell, MA. He was the youngest son of Stavros & Georgia Kitsakos, and survived his four older brothers Charles, Nick, Peter and Paul Kitsakos. A veteran of the US Navy, he served his country in WWII. Spero worked for many years in the family diner business in Brooklyn, NY and eventually became proprietor of his own restaurant, the Subway Diner, in Brooklyn. Afterwards he worked for Universal Maritime Company. He and his wife Toby raised their family in Brooklyn and Staten Island, NY. After retiring he moved with his wife to West Palm Beach. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Toby, his son Paul Kitsakos and his wife Maureen Herlehy, his son Stephen Kitsakos and his spouse John DeWald, his daughter Bonnie Menicucci and her husband Daniel, two granddaughters, Danielle and Alexandra Menicucci, and many nephews, nieces and close friends. A committal service with military honors will be held at 12:45pm March 11, 2014 at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth. Please assemble in lane 5. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Spero's memory be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County.
