Samuel A. Scerri, age 89, died on January 17, 2015 at his daughters home in Calistoga, CA. He left us peacefully, surrounded by friends and family, after a brief battle with cancer. Sam was born on July 28, 1925 in Senglea, Malta. He moved to the United States when he was a young man and proudly served in the Korean War. Sam returned to Malta briefly where he fell in love with Rosemarie Bezzina. They were married on August 11, 1953 in a fairly tale wedding in front of 1,000 guests. Together they returned to the United States and eventually settled in New York City. Sam and Rose raised 4 children together on the upper east side of Manhattan. Sam worked as a building superintendent and Rose was a homemaker. They enjoyed weekends and summers at their home in Shirley, Long Island where Sam spent most of his time boating and fishing. Their country home was always filled with friends and relatives. After retirement they moved to West Palm Beach Florida where they lived happily together for many years. Samuel is survived by his daughter Marianne Scerri and husband Jack, his son Joseph Scerri and fiancé Alex, his daughter Suzanne Campbell and husband Robert, his daughter-in-law Fran Scerri, his brothers Joseph Scerri, Charles Scerri and Alfred Scerri, 9 grandchildren (Rory, Jessica, Ian, Brandon, Dylan, Samantha, David, Julia, and Brian), 2 great-grandchildren (Jack and Josephine) and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Carmel Scerri and Josephine Schembri, his sister Mary Celeste, his wife Rosemarie Scerri and his son David Scerri. Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Sunday, January 25th from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Tillman Funeral Home located at 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 26th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, Lake Worth, Florida. This will be followed by a burial with Military Honors at 12:45 p.m. at The South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth.
