Gene R. Mangan, age 76, of Lake Worth, Florida passed away on March 23, 2015. Gene was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on August 30, 1938. He joined the US Army when he was 18, was honorably discharged after an injury to his ears while marching next to a tank. He then joined Westinghouse Air-Brake and later worked as a glass worker at American Saint Gobain in Jeannette, PA. He also was an Account Executive in Advertising Sales for the News Dispatch. He became a licensed Realtor and Real Estate Investor in Greensburg and later in West Palm Beach, Florida where he and his wife resided for the past 30 years. He also worked at the world famous Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach Florida and hosted a steady stream of family and friends as they visited South Florida. Gene and his wife Leona were married for 57 years, or as Gene used to say "114 years, 57 years each". They traveled and enjoyed many cruises throughout the Caribbean and to Mexico.Gene was an active member of the Notre Dame Club of Greensburg and organized Club Trips to Notre Dame football games. Both his son Patrick and his Granddaughter Marlena graduated from Notre Dame. His Grandson Patrick II earned a Management Certificate from the University of Notre Dame Mendoza School of Business. His Granddaughter Hannah attends Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana where she is studying to be a Registered Nurse. Patrick II earned a Black Belt in Karate' when he was just 13. Hannah and Katie are decorated gymnasts. Hannah was a state champion gymnast. Katie is also a champion cheersport competitor. They had one son Patrick E. Mangan whose wife Denise passed away in 2009, and four grandchildren Marlena, Patrick II, Hannah and Katie. His son is an ordained minister and has traveled around the world as a missionary evangelist, has raised over $30 million for charity and has put helped put 11 Christian repeater radio stations on the air in the Heartland of Indiana and Michigan. Gene's son is also the Executive Vice President of The Sergio Corporation which owns and operates one of the leading disaster restoration companies in the country, First Response. He also serves as the Executive Director of Citizens for Community Values of Indiana. Gene's oldest granddaughter Marlena is married to Rich Sypel and is a teacher and has two daughters Alexa and Addison.In addition to his wife, son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren Gene is survived by two sisters . . . Jacqueline ( & Richard Vaccaro ) , Joyce (& John Deblasio) and four Aunts; Grace Tickle, Flo Dorohovich, Gertie Herman and Yolanda Streussnig. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Verna Mangan and his youger brother, Patrick Kelly Mangan. Gene was a popular entertainer in his early years and one of the first to sing and perform on Television in the late 1950's in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Gene loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family and his Savior Jesus Christ. Gene was a born again Christian who readily shared his Faith in Jesus with everyone he met. He always had a song and a conversation for anyone. When he would meet a waitress and find out her first name, he would routinely begin to belt out a song that featured her name. Gene did not say goodbye but rather see you later' to those he expected to be reunited with in Heaven. Gene filled the room with his spirit of joy and love of life and will be both missed and remembered by those he touched. A wake service will take place at 7:30 PM on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 South Military Trail, West Palm Beach. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 PM until service time on Thursday. A graveside service with military honors will take place at 10:45 AM on Friday, March 27, 2015 at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 South State Road 7, Lake Worth Lake Worth. If attending the graveside service, please assemble at the cemetery in Lane #3 by 10:35 AM.
