Barbara Mae Darcy Hawley, 78, passed May 6, 2015 at Vi Lakeside after a valiant fight with breast cancer. Her smile & love of life will be missed by all who knew her. She was a beloved sister, friend, mentor and wife. Born 5/12/36 Lorain Ohio, parents were Rose Marie Garwell & Daniel DeHass. She graduated from Vermillion HS 1954. Intelligent & hard working she graduated from Bowling Green State University 1958, BS Education, & continued with life long learning, Elderhostel. A teaching career & her love to travel took her to Bethesda MD, Michigan, Ohio. As a Civil Service teacher, Dept of Defense she taught in Germany, Philippines, & Azores, thus giving her opportunity for excursions to the Orient, Europe, South & Central America, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, & more recently Canada & US with Audubon and Elderhostel. In 1968 she moved to WPB teaching at Palm Springs & Westward Elementary. Her students said she was best teacher ever. She taught Bible Studies as Member of Good Shepherd Church. Member of the Young at Heart, Audubon, a Guide Wakodahtchee, member of Retired Educators, Travel Clubs, Lake Worth Playhouse, Republican Party & Dolphins fan. Survived by Paulette, sister, & James Harper, Ahwahnee, CA; Kenneth J. Darcy, MD, brother & Judy, & great grand nephew Kenneth Paul Darcy, Natchitoches, LA.Special thanks to Judy & Gordon Demary who cared for her in her final years & Arlene Storch, Sonja, Barbara & Bill Short, countless friends, Peter Cowen, MD, Gracy Joshua MD, her Nurse Terri and Hospice of Palm Beaches.
