Malcolm Frederick Brenan

April 27, 1925 — November 2, 2015

Malcolm Frederick Brenan, 90, died peacefully Monday, November 2, 2015 at home in West Palm Beach, FL. He was born April 27, 1925, in Chicago, IL, and was predeceased by father and mother, Melville F. and Marie Lagerstrom Brenan; daughter Sharon and son, Terry. Malcolm was drafted into the U.S. Army during his last year at Fenger Academy High School in Chicago, IL. He spent his tour of duty in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland, being honorably discharged on February 7, 1946. He received the French Legion of Honor medal for his service to that country during World War II. After discharge, he enrolled in Purdue Unversity, graduating with a degree in civil engineering. Thereafter he was employed with the Ohio Department of Highways, after which he moved to Charleston, WV as Director of Planning in the WV Dept. of Highways. While employed, he was a member of the WV Board of Professional Engineers, the American Society of Photogrammetry, the National Association of Environmental Professionals, and the National Highway Institute. During that time he also earned a Master's Degree in Environmental Science from Marshall University. He retired from the WV Department of Highways in 1988 after 26 years of service. He was an avid golfer with many trophies, a softball player with many friends, active as a scout leader, a Sunday School teacher, and held office in many square dance clubs. After retirement he and his wife of 31 years, Mary, participated in multiple square, round and ballroom dance clubs, traveled the world and danced at festivals and seminars all over the United States, as well as a few in Europe. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, sons, Warren (Joyce) of Chesapeake, VA and Chester (Amy)of Cross Lanes, WV; stepchildren Roger D. Logan, Hopkinsville, KY, David A Logan (Amy), Richmond, VA; Cynthia M. Shepler, Sugar Land, TX, twelve grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Our family gratefully appreciates the care and guidance offered by Hospice Trustbridge Health and is especially thankful for Lamerci Dartilus, a dear person who never failed to bring a smile to Malcolm's face. We shall miss him terribly, but are comforted that he is now at peace. He never made an enemy in his entire life. Private cremation arrangements are under the care of Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach. Inurnment will take place at South Florida National Cemetery, West Palm Beach.
