HELEN ADAMS GARDNER
Helen Adams Gardner passed into the arms of the Lord on March 22, 2016. Helen was a long time resident of Palm Beach County, who was born on August 30, 1918. Helen was raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Upon graduating from high school as a member National Honor Society, Helen went on to earn her nursing degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Helen served in several hospitals as the Operating Room Supervisor including Good Samaritan Hospital and Lake Worth General. In 1964, Helen helped establish the new JFK Memorial Hospital in Atlantis FL., where she served in several positions until she retired in 1984 as the Director of Nurses. Helen was very active in the community where she served on various committees for the City of Greenacres, the local PTA, and various service organizations. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as its National President. In her capacity as National President, Helen visited all 50 states and territories, and several foreign countries representing the largest veteran organization in the world. Helen is survived by her sons Philip Calcagno of Lake Worth, FL., Bryan Adams of Tolar TX. and Jack Gardiner of Jamestown RI., close friends Dr. Chuck Moore and Father Louis Guerin. Helen was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grand children, and 2 great, great grand children. Helen was predeceased by her husband Wayne. Helen was a very loving mother and will be dearly missed by all her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 AM Friday, April 1, 2016 at St. Therese De Lisieux Catholic Church, Wellington, the Rev. Louis Guerin celebrant. Burial will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach. The family will receive relatives and friends 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach, where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. Memorial gifts may be sent to: American Cancer Society.
