THOMAS J. BOTTI, JR., age 87, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2016 at his home in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. He was born on September 19, 1928 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Thomas J. Botti, Sr. and Madeline Botti (De Luca). A graduate of St. Peter’s Prep and St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, Tom received his Master’s Degree in Education from New York University. He then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950-1951.
A career educator, Tom taught Mathematics for over 40 years. He served as Chairman of the Math Department at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, Rumson, N.J., until his retirement. He served as Varsity Basketball Coach as well as Freshman Baseball and Basketball Coach for much of his tenure there.
Tom worked summers at Monmouth Park Race Track, Oceanport, N.J. while teaching and later became a full time Mutual Clerk after retiring. In 1999, he and his wife, Vivian, moved to Florida where he became active in the USMC Devil Dogs and spent time playing golf and painting ceramics.
Tom is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vivian Botti (Giordano), daughter Liz Newsome and son-in-law John Newsome, of Wellington, Fl., and daughter Cindy Morgan, of Hackensack, N.J. Also surviving their Pop-Pop are grandson Spencer Morgan of Montclair, N.J. and granddaughters Emily and Katherine Newsome of Wellington, Fl.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Tom has touched are invited to attend his funeral mass at St. Rita Catholic Church in Wellington on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. For those who wish to attend, interment will immediately follow at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Fl. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Big Dog Ranch Rescue.
