John R. Glaser

August 5, 1943 — November 15, 2016

John R. Glaser, age 73, of Lake Worth, FL died at his home on November 15, 2016 with his family by his side.  He was comforted by Father Gabriel of JFK Palliative Care and True Bridges Hospice.  A private funeral with Father , Peter Truong was at the burial site where John was laid to rest at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, FL.

John was predeceased by his 4 sisters, Margie Martin, Kathy Brady, Pat Curran and Alma Jackson; and his dogs Princess and Red. Mr. Glaser is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan Owen Glaser; son Ian Robert Glaser and his wife Kristen and their children, Finn and Olive; daughter V.  Leah Glaser-Echarte and her husband Luis and their children, Gabriel, Nicolas and Elise; his 2 sisters, Mary Virginia Zachar and Martha Thomas; and his new dog, Champ.

John R. Glaser was born in Wheeling, WV August 5, 1943. He grew up in Bellaire, Ohio and was one of seven children. He met and married his wife Susan in Columbus, OH 1970 and moved to Wheeling, WV where he owned a Hippie Boutique called San Francisco Times. They moved to FL after John was afflicted with trigeminal neuralgia.

John attended Ohio State University and obtained his MBA from the University of Cincinnati.  He was a CPA but his primary career was as a business owner, which better suited his gregarious personality. He owned Southern Auto Upholstery in West Palm Beach for over 40 years where he went with his beloved dog Red. John earned a black belt in karate in his 30s and remained friends to the end with great guys from the dojo. Later in life, he renewed his interest in poker and became a regular at the Poker Room. Other hobbies were golfing with his son, singing with his daughter, debating politics with his wife, playing racquetball with the same buddy every week, reading, conversing with anyone and everyone he met, and watching old cowboy movies.

John was a loving and kind man, most passionate about his children and grandchildren.  Until Ian and Leah left for college, it was a given that every Saturday, John, his daughter and son went off to “breakfast” at noon, a movie, and a pizza for dinner. John was so close to his children and always made sure they knew he loved them. As his grandchildren came, he made it a priority to be at birthday celebrations and on trips or at games, and spend time with all every chance he had. In his last year, he and his oldest grandson Gabriel began a book club.
