Dr. Gerald Mancebo 1924-2016 Palm Beach Gardens, FL Dr. Gerald Mancebo died peacefully on November 22nd, 2016 just two weeks short of his 92nd birthday. Born in 1924 in Guanabacoa, Cuba, outside of Havana, he attended the University Of Havana where he obtained his MD degree and became a general surgeon. Along with a few other partners he founded a clinic and hospital in Guanabacoa where he practiced for several years. Dr. Mancebo was always interested in politics and valued democracy and social justice. He was involved in a national strike in Cuba against the dictator Batista. Later when Castro spurned democracy and imposed a dictatorship he rejected the government again and emigrated to the United States in 1962. He settled in Kaufman a town outside of Dallas, Texas where he and his wife raised their family. His medical practice flourished but when the children were grown he moved to Palm Beach County, Florida where he could enjoy the weather and his passion for fishing and spending time on his boat. Dr. Mancebo was preceded in death by his mother Maria Castilla, his father Gabriel Mancebo and His brother Gabriel Genaro Mancebo. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Isabel ; his daughter Isabel Stephenson of Palm beach Gardens ; his son Gerald L. and wife Cindy and granddaughter Madeline Mancebo of Knoxville , Tn. He also has an extended caring family including his cousin Carmen Castilla Riopelle that was like his sister. A mass celebrating his life will be held on Monday, December 19th at 11:30am at The Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola at 9999 N Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410. Ashes will be interred at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery following the service. Arrangements by Tillman Funeral Home.
