James Salmas enlisted in the US Navy the day he turned 17.He spent his service on a Patrol Craft patrolling the Atlantic Coast. Born in Haverhill Ma, after discharge he resumed his education and became a metallurgical engineer. In the 70's he cast submarine props for the Navy at Mare Island Naval shipyard. Jim settled in southern Florida to pursue his passion for 3 event water skiing as a member of the Ski Club if the Palm Beaches. He was a national champion many times over during his career spanning 50 years. He received the Award of Distinction in 2008 from the water ski national governing board and was inducted into the Florida State water ski Hall of Fame. Some of his skiing records still stand today.
Jim is survived by his wife Thelma Brannen Salmas, son James Salmas, daughters Patricia Vadeboncoeur and Maria Boisvert and numerous grand and great grand children. Jim will be missed by all who knew him.
