Roslyn (Bobbe) Taffel

May 12, 1918 — January 15, 2017

Bobbe (Roslyn) Taffel, founder of the Palm Beach County Library System, died on January 15, 2017 at the age of 98. 

Bobbe earned a B.S. as Mass. State College, M.A. at FAU, Ed.SPEC. at Nova Univ., Certificates at Univ. of Connecticut and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  She was U.S. Army Air Force Inspector during World War II, Photographer, Assistant Professor at FAU, Media Specialist & Teacher of Adult Education for P.B. County School System where she designed the Mobile Library for Teaches of Exceptional Children. She designed the DiBacco private school Library, was a West Palm Beach Public Librarian, Temple Israel Sunday School Librarian, Vice-Mayor of Palm Springs, Columnist for ELDER UPDATE, author of STORY OF THE EXODUS (Haggadah), wrote for the National Library Association. Her poetry is included in National Poetry Library anthologies.

She was CEO and President of Florida Silver-Haired Legislature, President of Educational Media Associa., President P.B. County Jewish Family & Children Service, President of PTAs, Chairman Palm Springs Library Board.

Board member of Florida Geriatric Task Force; of Omega subcommittee of P.B. County Health District; of Floridians for Health Care; of Palm Springs Constitutional Revision Committee; of P.B. County Library System; of League of Women Voters; Florida Associa. of School Librarians; AARP 55/Alive Driving Program Instructor.

Bobbe received awards from Royal Palm School, Florida Silver-Haired Legislature, Exceptional Child Council, Jewish Family & Children Service, Educational Media Association, AARP and the Delray Beach Police Academy.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Barry Levine, daughter and son-in-law, Randi and Henry Goodfriend, and grandchildren Justina, Sarah, Jeffrey, William, Aaron, Stephanie and great grandson, Brayden.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach.
