Lyda Brown Sorgini passed away on November 12, 2017 in the loving arms of her husband and two daughters after a courageous two and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 59 years old.
Lyda was born in West Palm Beach, Florida to the late Harold C. Brown and Frances Sewell Brown. She was a graduate of Cardinal Newman High School. Lyda attended Auburn University for one year where she played on the varsity tennis team. She then transferred to the University of Florida where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and was conferred a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. It was at the University of Florida where she met her husband, Robert. Lyda worked as a nurse in the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was an accomplished tennis player, winning many tennis tournaments and awards during her lifetime. She was active in philanthropy with many organizations and served as Chairperson of the Rosarian Academy Annual Auction and the St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital Barefoot on the Beach fundraiser.
Lyda’s many fine qualities included her soft and sweet personality, her ability to find the good in every person and situation, and her love for her family and friends. As a young girl she adored her grandparents. She was devoted to her parents her entire life and cared for them during their final illnesses. For the last 36 years she loved, supported, and encouraged her husband and children in every aspect of their lives. Lyda loved to travel; she enjoyed spending summers in the mountains of North Carolina; and she was always ready to have a good time.
Lyda is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughter Frances Vey Lockwood and son-in-law Dr. James C. Lockwood; her daughter Kathleen S. Parrott and son-in-law John C. Parrott III; her brother Harold C. Brown, Jr. and sister-in-law Barbara Love Brown; her sister-in-law Vicky S. Bidwell; mother-in-law Christine Sorgini and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
