On January 25, 2018, Stan succumbed to complications from Parkinson's disease with his loving family at his bedside at Trustbridge Hospice. Survivor's include his wife of 34 years, Barbara; daughter, Cathy (Jim) McDonald of Garner, North Carolina; bonus daughters, Tara Singleton and companion Steve Lane of Wenham, Massachusetts and Erin Singleton (John) Ray of Salem, Massachusetts; son, Richard (Nanette) Nelson of Sunnapee, New Hampshire. Stan also had two adored grandsons, Kyle McDonald and John John Ray.
Stan was born in the family home in Rockport, Massachusetts on August 15, 1928, the only child of Al and Kay (Francis) Nelson. He graduated from Salem High School and Northeastern University. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army.
Beginning his business career at CBS Hytron, he soon left to begin sales in the semiconductor industry. He formed A & N Associates and was a manufactures representative for several companies throughout New England, New York, Pennsylvania and Canada.
Stan and his family lived for many years in Lynnfield, Massachusetts before taking up residence in West Palm Beach, Florida. A long time member at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Massachusetts, he was a charter member at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach.
In addition to golfing and visiting most of the golf resorts along the east coast, he enjoyed beating his daughters at cribbage, rooting for all Boston sports teams (sometimes quite vocally) and until recently, long distance walking around the village. In summer there were many trips to Hobbs at the Willows for popcorn, and he never turned down ice cream either.
A real gentleman, kind and patient, he will be truly missed by all who loved him. A funeral mass for Stan will be celebrated at 11AM on Monday, January 29, 2018 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4001 North Shore Drive, West Palm Beach. A memorial service and interment will also take place in the spring in Massachusetts.
