Russell H. Schneider, Jr., 91, of Greenacres, Florida, beloved husband of 67 years of Dolores “Dee” (Rosen) Schneider, died on January 31, 2018. A native of Yonkers, New York, he was the son of the late Ruth (Hannon) and Russell H. Schneider, Sr., their third child of eight, and he was predeceased by sisters Ruth Krug, Dorothy Dietz and Nancy Maglio and brothers Robert, Raymond and John.
He was a graduate of Gorton High School (Yonkers) and joined the Navy on his 18th Birthday where he was assigned to the USS LSM 121. He started out as a radio operator decoding messages and information from Morse Code. He later served as Yeoman of the ship and took part in the Battle of Okinawa. After WW II he was discharged to California and hitchhiked his way back to New York.
For 40 years Russ was a foreman of the “white sugar warehouse” at Refined Syrups & Sugars in Yonkers. He and Dee retired to Florida in 1988 and referred to their life their as Paradise. He ran the Pine Ridge North Village II Bingo Night for over 20 years, was the “keeper of the keys” at his condo for his numerous snowbird neighbors, and was a volunteer ambassador for the Palm Beach Princess. He was a former member of BPOE and a life member of VFW Post 4445.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend and will be remembered by all who knew him for his kind nature, gentle soul and thoughtful ways.
In addition to his loving wife Dolores he will be dearly missed by his daughters Jane Larson and her husband John, Carol Podlaski and her husband Frank, sons Joseph and his partner Michael Keidel, Russell H, III and his wife Joanne and Robert and his wife Gladys, grandchildren Tracy, Stacy, Eric (Lyn), Trisha (Frank), William, Jaclyn (Nick) and Russell, furry granddaughter Opal and great grandchildren Marisa, Tammy, TJ, Sophia, Shawn, Matthew, Adella, Ethan and Olivia, sister Elizabeth “Bette” Crowley and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Funeral Mass on Friday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6090 Hypoluxo Road, Lake Worth, Florida
