Eileen Marcelle Rogers 91 years old of West Palm Beach Florida died peacefully in her home on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Eileen was born in Kingston, Jamaica on April 5, 1926 to Doris and George Elsaieh. She grew up in Jamaica and after graduating from business school came to the United States where she met her beloved husband, Herschel to whom she was married for 62 years. She and Herschel had four daughters that quickly became the center of her life. Eileen had a passion for motherhood and homemaking. There were always home cooked meals around the family table as she instilled in her daughters an appreciation for home and a respect for family time.
When Eileen’s children were grown she discovered a new place to nurture right in her own backyard as she developed from a novice wild birder to an expert one who offered nourishment to a wide range of birds for the rest of her life. Eileen also discovered that she had a green thumb, growing roses, orchids, and aloe however she particularly enjoyed growing African Violets.
As a devoted member of Community of Hope East (formerly Good Shepherd Methodist Church) for 43 years, she could be found on any given Sunday morning in last pew of the center aisle with a purse full of candy and snacks. She loved happy hymns, the Gaither Brothers and Dr. Stanley. She worked to support First Care Women’s Clinic, a Christian ministry for women facing unplanned pregnancy. Eileen could often be heard telling her anxious children, “Jesus says not to worry.” Handing one’s burdens over to God is the motto by which Eileen lived. Despite the pain of arthritis, Eileen awed her family by faithfully praying on her knees every night.
Though she was a small woman in stature, she had a major presence in the lives of all those she knew. Eileen Marcelle Rogers was a tough little lady and her family and friends will miss her strong, determined spirit.
Eileen is preceded in death by her husband Herschel Rogers and her grandson Clayton Wynn. Eileen will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Cheryl, Pamela (Mark), Teresa and Denise (Casey); her grandchildren Richard, Camille, Kelly, Shannon, Matthew, Philip, Michelle, Brooke, Jacob and Brigett; her great grandchildren Eli, Madison, Briana,Velia, Savannah, Kason and Grady; her sister Patsy Hill; and her brother Paul Elsaieh as well many other extended family and lifelong loving friends. A Celebration of Life service for Eileen will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 27 at Community of Hope East, 2341 South Military Trail. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Eileen’s memory to Community of Hope Prayer Garden or to First Care Women’s Clinic of West Palm Beach.
