Maryann Hockman-Montag, age 71, of Melbourne, Florida passed away Friday August 17, 2018 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Maryann was born in Queens, New York on April 23, 1947 and grew up in Elmont, Long Island with a large extended family. She was a member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church where she was baptized, received her first holy communion as well as her confirmation. She was a graduate of Elmont Memorial High School in 1965 before going on to the State University College at Oswego where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1969. Her crowning educational accomplishment came when she received her Master of Arts in Bilingual Education specializing in Spanish from Adelphi University in 1981. With her credentials in hand she and her young family set off to Melbourne Florida to set down new roots and pursue what would be a long and rewarding career as an educator encompassing an impressive 25 year stretch at Satellite High School followed by a 5 year stint at DeLaura Middle School before retiring in 2012. She was beloved by her co-workers, friends, and students alike. Maryann enjoyed a love of reading, watching old movies, swimming, and travel. She has preceded her parents James and Angela Herth in death, and is survived by her two sons Brent and Sean (Brenda) Hockman. She also leaves behind her sister Patricia (Kihm) Schroeder, her brother James (Maureen) Herth, and grandchildren Brianna, Anthony, and Skylar Hockman. Her former Daughter in Law Heather Hockman, several nieces, nephews, and cousins will miss her dearly as well. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the many new and longtime friends of Team Maryann that made the journey to this day a loving and supportive one.
