Elizabeth “Liz” Shields, 72 of Palm Springs, FL went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Liz was born to Arthur and Eileen DeMarois on December 24,,1945 in Detroit, MI. The DeMarois family moved to Lake Worth, FL in 1957. Liz was a member of Cardinal Newman High School’s class of 1964 and was a parishioner of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Liz married her husband Harold D. Shields in December 1967. Liz had a 40+ year career as a Court Reporter in Palm Beach County. Some of her most notable memories as a Court Reporter include serving as a reporter for Palm Beach County’s Board of Elections during the infamous recount of the 2000 Presidential Election. Later in her career, she served as the Ecclesiastical Notary for the Diocese of Palm Beach in an effort to Canonize Blessed Titus Brandsma. She lightheartedly referred to this as her “Build a Saint” job. After retiring from Court Reporting, she went on to become a Council Member for the Village of Palm Springs from 2016 to 2018. Liz is remembered by her family and friends for having a great sense of humor and a knack for telling jokes. She was frequently the life of the party and made friends wherever she went. Liz loved to travel and was always willing to take a road trip or cruise. She never met a slot machine she didn’t like. Liz had a great sense of adventure and enjoyed “staking out” the backstage area of concert venues to meet artists and celebrities. Some notable encounters include meeting her favorite singer, Johnny Cash, and comedian Jay Leno. Liz and her daughter even once met Jimmy Buffett while driving through Palm Beach. She was also a very proud Florida State University mom and fan. Liz is survived by her daughter Megan Shields of Milliken, CO., sister Trudi Steinhauer of Marietta, GA., brother Dennis and sister-in-law Sandy DeMarois of Oxford, AL., brother David and sister-in-law Cheryl DeMarois of Loxahatachee, FL. as well as numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as “Favorite Aunt Liz”, cousins, friends, and her three granddogs (Izzy, Kai, and Abby). Liz was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Eileen DeMarios, husband Harold Shields, brother Douglas DeMarois, sisters-in-law Doris DeWitte and Evelyn Skarhaug, brothers-in-law Donald Shields, Bill Noel, and Joel Steinhauer, as well as granddogs Maggie and Penny.
